Services & Style

Is District Remix a full or part-time DJ firm?

District Remix is a full-time, full service DJ company, with an office open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday. Demonstrations are scheduled by appointment.


Is District Remix insured?

Yes. We carry a $1.8 million full liability policy, and are able to furnish a copy for you or your venue by request.


What makes District Remix unique?

We listen to your needs and exceed your expectations. All of our DJs beat-mix/club-style mix your music tastes. We encourage you to meet your perfomer for a music demonstration to see how they mix before you book!


What types of events are your specialty?

Weddings are our passion and make up over 90% of the business booked through District Remix. We also cater to corporate functions, private parties and school dances.


How would you define your “style” or approach to providing DJ entertainment?

We train our team to be “classy-cool” on the mic. We are the “voice” of your event, but you are the “face” of it. Our performers’ presentation is polished and understated, marked by artistic mixing and a professional “cheese-free” approach to announcements and microphone work. Many DJs think it's their job to put on a show and be the center of attention at the reception. We firmly believe that your wedding is your show, and we have no interest in taking the spotlight from you. Your dance floor will be packed, but it will be because the DJ selected just the right songs from your request list and mixed them in just the right sequence - not because they chattered endlessly on the microphone.


What areas do you serve?

Our standard rates include a travel radius of 1 hour (one-way) from our office in Columbia, MD. This means we cover most areas of Northern Virginia, Washington, DC, Central Maryland, Baltimore, and parts of Maryland's Eastern Shore with no additional travel fee. Past the first hour, a travel charge does incur; for events past 150 miles one-way, we require overnight accommodations. If you are looking to have us DJ an event further away or out of the country, call us a custom quote.


Pre-Contract/Meet the Talent

Can you meet your deejay?

District Remix encourages you to meet with your selected deejay prior to your event. We can either meet in person or chat via phone or online. We feel as many other parts of the events industry (catering, photographer, etc), you get to experience their work, whereas many DJs will just rely on reviews and say they are great. We want you to know exactly what to expect out of their performance. Would you book a caterer without doing a sampling first? Many couples we have spoken to say they know what a bad DJ looks like, but most haven’t gotten to experience a great one. We allow you to do that at our studio-office or via an online demonstration.


Do you offer free consultation(s) on your event?

Yes! We offer unlimited planning and music sessions with your salesperson and/or performer.


I can’t come in person. How can I see what you do?

Distance is no longer a factor for our clients. We can schedule a demo online via Skype, Gchat or Facetime. You get the same exact experience as you would coming into our office (minus the handshake). If you just need to see how we mix, we can send you a sample video of your selected performer.


Can we visit you at a performance?

Out of respect for the privacy of others on their special day, District Remix does not permit prospective clients to “drop in” on a wedding. Would you want us to bring clients to your event? This is why we invite our clients to our office, or schedule an online meeting to talk to the DJ and see how they spin. This way we can give you a condensed dry run of your wedding, with time to tweak the music and ask any questions you might have. In addition, our references, online reviews, and the information we provide you in our initial meeting will speak volumes of our experience, style and professionalism.


Music Selection & Mixing & Setup/Performance Details

Will the DJ work from a custom playlist?

All of the District Remix DJs are happy to personalize the music and soundtrack around your taste(s).


What format of music do the DJs use?

The District DJs are all digital, utilizing multiple formats to play your music.


What type of equipment do you use?

District Remix proudly outfits their DJs with Pioneer, QSC, Shure, JBL and other professional brands.


How will the DJ dress for my event?

Let us know what the dress code is and we’ll make sure to fit the style. We like to blend in with your guests, not stick out like a sore thumb. Our DJs will dress in tuxedos by request.


Do they have deejays with experience in multicultural events and music?

District Remix caters to many cultural backgrounds … Middle Eastern and Hispanic, to name a couple! If there is music we aren’t experts in yet, we will be!


When do you arrive to set up for an event?

Our performers always arrive on-site at least an hour and a half prior to the contracted start time of the event, and earlier as necessitated by the setup requirements of the site.


What happens if there is an emergency?

District Remix has emergency systems and deejays in place each weekend.


Do all of your DJs beat-mix or do they just fade song to song?

All of our DJs beat-mix the music, whatever genre(s) it may be. This allows us to keep your guests up dancing throughout the party, regardless of the music styles selected.


Do you move your gear from room to room (cocktail area to the reception)?

We bring enough gear to do the event without having a break in music.


I don’t want the music at my wedding to be a traditional wedding soundtrack. Can we do something more eclectic?

Totally! We’re not at all attached to tradition – we’re here to incorporate the music you request, and to mix it in a way that will create the wedding and energy you’ve envisioned. Somewhere along the line, the phrase “wedding DJ” became a bad word, synonymous with cheesiness. We couldn’t be any further from that image.


Do you use party props?

No. Our performers do not dress in any type of costume or distribute props to the crowd, unless requested and provided by our clients. We also don't harass your guests into joining us on the dance floor, nor do we teach them how to line dance. If you are seeking a performer to motivate your guests in this way, you would probably be happier with another deejay company - there are a few who specialize in this interactive style of entertainment!


Do you offer additional services?

Yes! We offer wireless LED uplighting that can be modified to complement your events color theme. We also offer customized pre-recorded mixes for band breaks, medleys for first dances, parent dances and more!


How involved are you in helping us plan our music?

We are here to help! During our initial meeting, we work out a bulk of the music with you, figuring out your style and tastes to make the music selections that day. District Remix sets up each client with an online planning account to organize your music choices, timeline and all of the special details.


How involved can we be in selecting music for our event?

We encourage you to be as involved as you would like to be! If you would like to select every song, we are happy to accommodate you. The majority of our couples, however, prefer to discuss their preferences and at least pick a few specific requests. That helps in alleviating the stress of picking out everything/enough music for your event.


What kinds of music are included in your collection?

District Remix owns an enormous library of music in all formats, including international music. We update our collection constantly, ensuring that we are able to provide the songs that our clients and their guests are currently enjoying. Furthermore, we work closely with our clients in selecting the music for their event, and will gladly acquire any commercially available song that we don’t already own at no additional cost.


Booking District Remix/Contract Details/Price

How much do you charge?

Depending on the DJ selected, our 4-6 hour reception rates range between $1500 - $3000.


Does District Remix accept all major credit cards?

Yes.


How will I know who my DJ will be, and how do I book said DJ for my event?

Once you’ve submitted the contact form on our website and indicated that you’re ready to connect with a DJ, we’ll send you a few easy questions to answer via email. These will enable us to match you with an available DJ who will be a great fit for you in terms of music, personality and any other preferences you may have. The DJ will then be more than happy to schedule an easy, convenient consultation via Skype or telephone (or meet you in person if you prefer) to discuss your plans, review the contract and answer your questions. You’ll have a 7-day window during which to make your decision, electronically sign your agreement and submit payment - and of course we're here to provide any additional information or assistance you need during that time and along the way!


Terms & Requirements

Do you charge for set-up or tear down time?

No.


What is included in the cost of my event?

The requested amount of performance time (additional time is available at a prorated hourly cost), setup time, breakdown time, and ALL equipment, including additional sound systems and wireless microphones for weddings with up to 200 guests. For weddings over 200 guests, a custom quote may be necessary to ensure your event's equipment and staffing needs are met.


What are the terms of payment if I book your services?

An industry-standard 50% nonrefundable retainer is due with your signed agreement within 7 days of the contract being presented to you. This retainer reserves and guarantees the services of said specific DJ on your wedding day, and includes their unlimited accessibility to you in providing music planning assistance. Any balance due is collected 30 days prior to your event.


What do you require from my event site?

We require at least one 6-foot banquet table with linen(s), and adequate power (120-volt, 15-amp circuit on a grounded outlet) within 35 feet of where the DJ will be set up.

Do you pay “kickbacks” for referrals?

Never. District Remix does not pay kickbacks or referral fees in the forms of money, gifts or any other incentives.
